This page has a chart/table. How to use the tools?
Search: When a word or number is entered on the Search line, all columns and rows in the table will be searched. The results will appear in the table.
Filtering: Optional filters that can be used above the table may appear. They can be used to narrow down the results from a search, can be used alone or combined with another filter(s), and can be cleared.
Column Sorting: Columns can be sorted Ascending or Descending by clicking on the triangle in the header.
Display a specific number of Rows: The number of rows to display can be adjusted. Change the pull-down to between 10 and 50.
Save to PDF: Some tables will have the option to save the output as a pdf.
Note: Some charts/tables may not have all of these functions available.
Delaware Directory of African American Civil War Veterans
This Directory documents the names, companies, and regiments of 1,868 African American Delaware residents in 49 regiments who were veterans of the Civil War. The total encompasses 1,446 native-born residents and 422 veterans who moved to Delaware after the war.
This Directory does not document all African American veterans. For example, new post-war residents who did not file for a pension are not recorded in any records. There are many other examples. There is no known confirmed archived information that documents the number of Delaware’s African American veterans of the Civil War. This Directory research, therefore, is designed to focus only on soldiers with documented confirmation of service.
